Since centuries ago, ancient civilizations loved to use Hot Springs baths as therapy to more than just relaxing, but also, to have great benefits for the health. Arenal area in Costa Rica has been widely recognized as prime destination for rest-seekers at the largest network of naturally flowing thermal mineral springs of the country: Baldi Hot Springs. Your Arenal Volcano rainforest and hot springs excursion begins early in the morning as you board an air-conditioned Van/Bus from your San Jose selected hotel.

The 4 hours’ drive to the northern lowlands of Costa Rica is very scenic, thanks to the breathtaking transition from the metropolitan area to the countryside and coffee fields. At the famous town of Sarchi, you will have the first stop, as the guide will explain you the history of this village known for its beautiful handicrafts brightly colored and the construction of its giant Ox Cart with nearly 45 feet long (14 meters) and a weigh of 4400 lbs (2 tons). The journey will then continue, traversing diverse plantations with agricultural products until arriving to the small town of La Fortuna, and stopping to enjoy lunch at a cozy restaurant where you will be able to start feeling the charm and peacefulness of this part of the country.

After Lunch, the tour continues with the visit to Arenal 1968 Park, a private reserve of 284 hectares, which is right next to the national park and offers an incredible lookout point. During the short visit (around 30 minutes), the guide will talk briefly about the volcano and its famous eruption of 1968, just the reason of why the private park got its name. If you are lucky, the volcano will not be covered by clouds and you will have one of the best views of Arenal Volcano in the entire area! These views will give you a better panorama of the old lava flows, which came down from the slope of the volcano and changed dramatically the topography of the area. During the afternoon, you will enjoy one of the most expected moments of the excursion, the visit to Baldi Hot Springs

These natural hot springs features a hot river that flows from cascading falls through a series of pools and surrounded by impressive, well-manicured tropical gardens that crisscross the entire property. The hot springs are the result of combining the four elements of nature: Rainwater heated by magma in the Earth’s interior. Once heated, the waters rise to surface, taking with them minerals found in the earth’s rocky crust, and in contact with the purest air of the rainforest, creates vapors that become very benefic to your body that helps to relax muscles, clean pores and rejuvenate the skin. Here, you will relax for approximately 2 hours. The parks recommends trying the hot water pools and the switch to a cold-water, you can do this many times if you like, it will relax and restore your body in a surprising way. For a perfect ending, you will be delighted by a delicious dinner and with newly recharged energies, you will start the return trip to your hotel, feeling relaxed as never before and looking forward to coming back to this magical spot.
